This trend was all over the runway and Chanel, Carolina Herrera, and Cynthia Rowley are just a few of the high-profile designers to rock this look in their recent Spring runway shows. Did you get an amazing blowout that you’re not ready to wash away? Well, have we got news for you! Psssst Instant Dry Shampoo can be used to get rid of greasy or oily hair without washing. Not only does Psssst Dry Shampoo get rid of second day oil build up, but it is also a great way to add volume and texture to your hair. Another benefit of this product, it's budget friendly. The Charles David Salon hairstylists love that it makes hair look, feel, and smell fresh without showering, but we also want you to know about a few minor drawbacks. Psssst Dry Shampoo is a white powdery spray, and if you have dark hair and use the product too much the white powder may become visible, so it is important to use sparingly if you have dark hair. It is also important to brush your hair after you spray the product, this will also prevent the white powder from showing. We hope you enjoy Pssst as much as we do!
Keeping up with the constant change of hairstyle trends can be difficult, so we’re here to help! What’s a big trend for 2011, you ask? Bangs! Now don’t go rushing off to cut those locks off right away, there are a few pointers you need to know first. If done right, bangs can look amazing, but it is very easy to miss the mark on this trend. Here are some different hairstyles that are best complimented by bangs. “The Bob” hairstyle looks flattering with fringe bangs. Many celebrities like Rihanna hit the target right on with this style. Another great look that goes with fringe bangs is long hair. Celebrities including Reese Witherspoon and Vanessa Hudgens perfected this hairstyle. Side swept bangs are also a great way to go if you’re looking to follow this trend in a less drastic and low maintenance way. See celebrities like Nicole Richie and Hillary Duff to see how great a side swept bang can look if done the right way. Whatever style you’re looking for, the Charles David Salon stylists will meet your needs and send you on your way looking trendy and fabulous. How do you know if you’re really getting the most out of your hairstyling products? Believe it or not, using hair products the wrong way can give you the opposite effect you’re looking for. For example, using gel or mousse is a great way to create volume and shape for your hair, but you should only use a dime to nickel size drop to be fully effective. Too much gel or mousse can actually cause your hair to lose volume, which we know you don’t want! Also, if you want a lot of volume, be sure to keep gel away from the ends of your hair, because this will cause it to be weighed down. Welcome to my first ever blog entry!
I just got back from doing color at New York Fashion week for Donna Karan’s DKNY fall 2010 line. It was such an honor to be chosen for this prestigious event. I was so inspired by all the new fashions, hair styles, colors and makeup that I thought I would share what I observed with you.
Hair:
The hair at fashion week was mid length to long (way past the shoulders) Hair was swept to the side in a low-lying ponytail to the side in the back... didn't matter what the texture was, it seems to look fairly smooth and neat with some natural texture showing. The colors were in a very soft neutral palette. Your blondes for next fall are beigy and golden. These beiges, goldens and deeper tones were achieved with extensions that were placed into their hair, and YES can be achieved with hair that has already been colored. I did see a few cooler tones woven into some blondes to pick up the jewel tones in some of the clothing. Your brunettes were rich and chocolaty with golden ribbons woven through yet everything looked very dimensional. Don't think you will see much of the ruby reds this coming fall, the colors are screaming for coppers, and golden copper browns...
Clothing:
Clothing looks were very 70's inspired with earthy colors with jewel tones and patchwork shapes woven in while mixing fine velvets with silks and cottons. There were lots of plaids on pale backgrounds. Hats will also be big this coming fall! DKNY was showing lots of boyish camp style hats that were in these gorgeous crushed cottons that looked like velvet in very neutral tones in order to mix them with different outfits. Bags are still big and oversized with warm and jewel tones. Persimmon and terracotta were big in the outer jackets colors. The jackets were a bit big and oversized, but fitted in the right spots, like the waist and shoulders, yet still feminine!!
Make-up:
The makeup was very smoky and mattes, not a lot of shine this year girls!!! Beiges and browns... the focus was on the eyes, with neutral matte lips, and very pale skin tones. Sun goddesses grab your matte bronzer! Not all of us can carry those pale skin tones. Our Jane Iredale line at Charles David Salon has just these looks with their “Brush me Matte” collection.
Bye for now,
