The Colorista

Welcome to my first ever blog entry!

I just got back from doing color at New York Fashion week for Donna Karan’s DKNY fall 2010 line.  It was such an honor to be chosen for this prestigious event.  I was so inspired by all the new fashions, hair styles, colors and makeup that I thought I would share what I observed with you.

Hair:
The hair at fashion week was mid length to long (way past the shoulders)  Hair was  swept to the side in a low-lying ponytail to the side in the back... didn't matter what the texture was, it seems to look fairly smooth and neat with some natural texture showing.  The colors were in a very soft neutral palette.  Your blondes for next fall are beigy and golden.  These beiges, goldens and deeper tones were achieved with extensions that were placed into their hair, and YES can be achieved with hair that has already been colored.  I did see a few cooler tones woven into some blondes to pick up the jewel tones in some of the clothing.  Your brunettes were rich and chocolaty with golden ribbons woven through yet everything looked very dimensional.  Don't think you will see much of the ruby reds this coming fall, the colors are screaming for coppers, and golden copper browns...

Clothing:
Clothing looks were very 70's inspired with earthy colors with jewel tones and patchwork shapes woven in while mixing fine velvets with silks and cottons.  There were lots of plaids on pale backgrounds. Hats will also be big this coming fall!  DKNY was showing lots of boyish camp style hats that were in these gorgeous crushed cottons that looked like velvet in very neutral tones in order to mix them with different outfits.  Bags are still big and oversized with warm and jewel tones.  Persimmon and terracotta were big in the outer jackets colors.  The jackets were a bit big and oversized, but fitted in the right spots, like the waist and shoulders, yet still feminine!!

Make-up:
The makeup was very smoky and mattes, not a lot of shine this year girls!!! Beiges and browns... the focus was on the eyes, with neutral matte lips, and very pale skin tones. Sun goddesses grab your matte bronzer! Not all of us can carry those pale skin tones.  Our Jane Iredale line at Charles David Salon has just these looks with their “Brush me Matte” collection.

Bye for now,
